When printing documents through the MSI (Virtual Printer), it’s important to understand how page size and formatting are handled.
What happens during printing?
The MSI will always use the selected printer’s default page size, so the document is printed using the printer’s default settings.
What does this mean in practice?
If your original document uses a different page size than your printer’s default, the output may not match your expectations.
Example:
- Source document: A3
- Printer default setting: A4
- Result: The document will be printed in A4, not A3
How can you ensure the correct page size?
To print documents whose format differs from the printer's default one, you’ll need to manually adjust the printer’s default settings before printing:
- Open your printer settings
- Change the default page size to match your document (e.g., A3)
- Proceed with printing via MSI
Keep in mind that you’ll need to repeat this step each time you switch between different page sizes.
Additional notes
- This behavior was tested using the Microsoft Print to PDF (Windows default printer).
- Results may vary when using physical printers, depending on their configuration and capabilities.
